Children’s Exam

At Smile Hub Dental Clinic in Bayside Medical Centre our main priority when examining children is making sure they are comfortable and feel safe. Our highly experienced dentists want to focus on getting our young patients used to sitting in the dental chair and to prevent any dental phobias in the future. At Smile Hub Dental Clinic, we will usually see if the child will sit in the chairs to check their teeth. If they are still a bit nervous, we recommend them sitting on their parents lap while we examine their teeth to ensure they are happy during their appointment. Your best dentist for children’s exams in Dublin.

The Process Itself

Before the examination one of our friendly dentists will explain what is done in an exam and will show them all the instrument, they will use to get them comfortable with their surroundings. In a child’s exam the dentists are usually looking for cavities. Here at Smile Hub Dental Clinic, we believe that prevention is the best way to ensure that your child will not need dental procedures in the future. Your Smile Hub dentist will take the time to explain to parent and child the best way to brush their teeth and certain foods that should be avoided or limited to stop early decay in baby teeth. Our dentists will also usually be able to tell if a child will need orthodontic work in the future based on their age. If this is the case, they can refer to an orthodontist for more information. In some cases, a child may need an x-ray if the dentists suspect there is decay in a tooth that is not visible to the eye. Here at Smile Hub Dental Clinic, we use child friendly x-rays to make sure their experience is as comfortable as possible.

How Long Does it Take?

Our child dental exam requires only about 15 to 20 minutes and enables our dentists to provide the best treatment plan for your child having evaluated all of their teeth. At Smile Hub Dental Clinic, a treatment plan will be designed around our patient’s needs, concerns and budgets. All costs are transparent and provided to our patients in advance of their treatment along with the expected number of appointments.

  • Tell them your positive experience in the dentist

Are baby teeth important?

Baby teeth are important as they help a child to speak properly and chew correctly. They also act as a guide for permanent teeth to come down in the correct position and stop any abnormal jaw or bone development. This is why it is important to look after baby teeth as even though they will fall out eventually they play an important role for the adult teeth.

When can my child use toothpaste?

Here at Smile Hub Dental Clinic, we usually tell parents to start using fluoride tooth paste on their child’s teeth from the age of two or three. There should only be a tiny amount used and it is important that the child then spits it out to prevent fluorosis on the teeth in the future.
