Incisal Edge Bonding

Here at Smile Hub Dental Clinic, our experienced dentists are used to seeing worn down, chipped or broken teeth. This is quite common in the front teeth known as the incisors. This is why we provide incisal edge bonding to improve the tooth shape and create a more aesthetically pleasing smile. Incisal edge bonding is when a composite material is added to only the edge of the teeth. Incisal edge bonding is a very popular treatment as it is more cost effective than other cosmetic procedures such as crowns or veneers. It is also a great option as it does not damage the tooth and often there is no anaesthetic or tooth preparation involved. Incisal composite bonding can transform your smile completely on its own or along side treatments such as six months smiles or tooth whitening.

At Smile Hub Dental Clinic in Sutton, Dublin 13 our expert dentists understand that tooth whitening alone often does not create a stunning smile.  Incisal edge bonding can be used to repair chips, gaps, or uneven edging on the teeth. At Smile Hub Dental Clinic our skilled cosmetic dentists can apply a thin coating of composite or white filling resin to the edge of the incisal teeth. This composite or white filling resin can then be moulded to the desired shape before it hardens so that it creates a symmetric and aesthetic smile.

At Smile Hub Dental Clinic, we only use the highest quality composite materials and have a wide variety of shades to match the patient’s natural tooth. The composite resin is meticulously matched to the natural shade of your teeth. The results can completely change your smile while looking natural. Many patients do teeth whitening treatment first to brighten their teeth so that a whiter composite can be added to match. Whitening and bonding are a great pair to create that perfect smile. The results oh Incisal edge bonding are equivalent to the improvements achieved with porcelain veneers or crowns, however incisal edge bonding is less invasive and less expensive. There is no need for drilling on the tooth which keeps the tooth preserved. When your incisal edge bonding is completed at Smile Hub in Bayside Medical Centre you will leave with the Smile you have always wanted.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is incisal edge bonding?

Incisal edge bonding is the addition and bonding of a composite resin material around the edges of the teeth. This corrects chips and uneven edges and creates a more aesthetic smile. There is no drilling involved so the tooth structure is kept preserved. It is matched to the shade of your teeth, so it makes a difference without being obvious or noticeable.

How long does dental bonding last?

Incisal edge bonding can last between 4 and 8 years depending on the case. Your bite or eating habits can affect incisal edge bonding and cause it to chip or wear over time. If your bonding does chip it can be easily repaired. We would suggest avoiding very hard foods or habits such as biting Sellotape or nails as this can cause your incisal edge bonding to come off.

Does edge bonding ruin your teeth?

Incisal edge bonding is not invasive so in no way does it ruin your teeth. There is no tooth preparation involved with edge bonding so the natural tooths structure will be preserved. Incisal edge bonding is completely reversable and can be removed if needed. Over time bonding can fade or chip but this will not have an affect on the natural tooth structure.

Can edge bonding be reversed?

Yes. If for some reason the bonding needs to be removed it can be taken off easily. Edge bonding is just an addition to the teeth, so nothing is taken away which keeps the tooth structure preserved. This is great as if you decide you are unhappy with the shape or shade, it can be taken off.

Can I whiten my teeth if I have bonding?

The composite material that is used with edge bonding will not change colour, so it is not possible to whiten. If you would like to whiten your teeth, we would suggest doing it before getting edge bonding done so the composite can then be matched to the brighter shade. Bonding can fade and stain over time so you may have to get it re done after a few years to keep them looking bright.
