Teeth Whitening

Whitening your teeth is one of the most effective ways to improve your smile. It is simple, effective, safe, and economical, making it one of the most popular cosmetic dental procedures today.

There are various methods and procedures for whitening. At-home whitening is the most common and straightforward approach for whitening teeth, with the most consistent results and fewest sensitivity issues. Teeth-specific bleaching trays are fabricated and worn either for one hour during the day or overnight. Treatment duration varies. On average, optimal results can be achieved in two to four weeks. Adjustments are made throughout the duration to ensure that all teeth receive the same degree of whitening.

In-office whitening is an alternative option. As the concentrations of hydrogen peroxide in at-home whitening and in-chair whitening are now identical, the primary advantage of in-chair whitening is its shorter treatment time and single-visit convenience. This is advantageous if you have an upcoming event within a few days following therapy.

Complex instances involving damaged teeth may benefit from teeth whitening in conjunction with restorative dentistry. You can schedule a free consultation with us so that we can evaluate your situation and explain your best options.

Do I need to consult a dentist or hygienist before to whitening?

Before beginning treatment, you will receive a complimentary 15-minute consultation to determine your appropriateness for teeth whitening. This is a somewhat superficial examination, so we would recommend a comprehensive dental examination with x-rays to completely evaluate any underlying concerns.

A visit to the hygienist is recommended, as they may remove any plaque or tartar from your teeth, allowing for a more uniform whitening of the entire tooth surface.

Frequently Asked Questions

Are the results of my whitening treatment permanent?

No, the results of whitening treatments vary from patient to patient. Lifestyle such as the types of food or drinks that a person takes can increase the rate of discolouration such as tea, coffee or red wine. Home Whitening kits are beneficial as you have the ability to ‘top up’ and refresh the colour of your teeth at anytime you wish.

Is teeth whitening safe?

Absolutely. The at home whitening kits must be used according to their instructions. At Smile Hub Dental Clinic we provide all our patients with a comprehensive exam to confirm suitability for whitening treatments and also to ensure that all basic dental care is completed before whitening treatments. Whitening treatments are safe and effective cosmetic dental procedures.

Will the whitening gel whiten my filling, veneer or crown?

No. The gels will only work on natural dental tissues which has no restorations. However, this need not deter you from whitening your teeth. Following whitening treatments any discoloured dental restorations can be replaced. An individualised treatment plan with costings will be provided before your teeth whitening procedures.

Which teeth whitening system does Smile Hub use?

At Smile Hub Dental Clinic, we’re delighted to use Colgate Max White Professional System. This is a professional take home whitening system specifically formulated to remove discolouration on patients’ teeth caused by foods, tobacco and other staining agents.

Patients are advised to use this whitening gels for 30 minutes a day. This system has clinical proven whitening efficacy. It contains sodium fluoride for strengthening teeth and potassium nitrate to reduce sensitivity. The 6% hydrogen peroxide whitens dental tissue. The whitening gels are easy to use and create visibly whiter teeth in 3 days. The whitening gels that we use in Smile Hub Dental Clinic complies with the Council of European Union Directive.

What do I do after my teeth whitening treatment?

To get the best results from your whitening treatment your dentist in Smile Hub will recommend that you avoid staining foods and drinks such as red wine, tea, coffee, tomato based sauces, curry based sauces. A good rule of thumb is if it stains your clothes then it will stain your teeth. It is important to avoid smoking. To reduce sensitivity after your whitening treatment you can place a small amount of toothpaste into your whitening trays and wear them for 30 minutes.
